Police of Latvia found illegal production of cigarettes
The representative of the State Police of Latvia Lasma Courcite said that the police found in the Elgava district the largest illegal production of cigarettes in the history of Latvia, writes the portal tvnet.lv. The production line was equipped with modern equipment. During the search, the police found 7,387,696 Prince cigarettes weighing 20.16 tons, as well as a large amount of raw materials for the production of cigarettes. The police detained 11 people between the ages of 25 and 55. All detainees had not previously come to the attention of the police. All detainees were subject to a non-custodial measure. According to preliminary data, illegal production worked during the year. Criminal proceedings have been instituted under the third part of article 221 of the Criminal Code on the illegal production, storage, transport and sale of tobacco products in particularly large amounts. The article provides for imprisonment for up to 5 years, a monetary fine, forced labour and confiscation of property.
