The United States believes that Russia should get rid of Petrel and Poseidon
The Russian projects of the Petrel and Poseidon missiles are terrible and Russia better get rid of them. This opinion was expressed on July 3 by the special representative of the US President for Arms Control, Marshal Billingsley, on his Twitter page. In his message, the special representative commented on an article by Forbes magazine that an increase in the radiation background was allegedly discovered in Sweden at the end of June, which, according to the author of the publication, could be the consequences of testing such missiles. It does not matter whether (the Russian Federation) is responsible for this incident or not, this indicates why Russia should send these projects to the regiment. A big waste of money, wrote in his message. He also noted that these types of weapons are not covered by the Treaty on the Reduction of Strategic Offensive Arms (PRSN, informal title SNV-3) and that the new version should necessarily cover them. It should be noted, as reported by the news agency, earlier the international monitoring system (IMS) of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization stated that it recorded on June 22 and 23 over northeastern Europe an excess of the concentration of isotopes of cesium-134, caesium-137 and ruthenium-103. Later, on June 29, press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian radiation safety monitoring system did not record any such situations in the north-west of the country.
